XENON BULBS ARE FLICKERING.
If your Xenon bulbs for your aftermarket hid kit are flickering, it could be just a simple case of replacing the bulb in question.
Ensure that the ignition of the car is off making sure that there is no power going to the headlights.
Check for obvious signs of wear and tear, all the wiring should be intact.
Sometimes the connections may come loose, ensure that all connections are tight.
- Replace the bulb.
If the problem persists:
- Replace the ballast.
It is important to replace both bulbs to ensure the colour output is the same.
OEM / Factory fitted xenon bulbs may also flicker and stop working – the same as above applies.
HID BULBS HAVE CHANGED COLOUR.
Hid / Xenon bulbs lose their brightness with time, that is inevitable.
As the bulb ages over time and usage you will see the bulb(s) lose brightness and in some extreme cases the actual colour of the bulb will have a different hue. On some cars the bulbs look lilac / pink in colour and have zero benefits for the driver.
Simply change the bulb.
When changing the bulb, always do so in pairs. This ensures that the colour / output of the bulbs is the same.
BULBS ARE ONLY WORKING ON ONE SIDE.
If your HID / Xenon bulbs are working only on one side and you do not know whether it’s the bulb or the ballast do the following:
Take the bulb that is not working and replace with bulb that is working.
- If the bulb works, then the issue is your ballast or fuse.
- If the bulb does not work, then the issue is your bulb.
I AM GETTING ERRORS ON MY DASHBOARD.
If you have installed an aftermarket kit, be it HID or LED and you are getting errors on your dashboard with reference to the lights.
You may have installed a non can-bus kit/bulb, or the can-bus kit is not strong enough.
Ideally you want a product with an inbuilt can-bus decoder.
You may be able to purchase inline resistors to bypass the issue. Note - the resistors will get very hot and can cause issues, so be sure to install them where they are not in contact with anything and have enough cool air circulating around it at all times.
DO I NEED A RELAY FOR MY HID KIT?
Single beam HID kits (H1, H3, H7 etc.) do not require a relay. Single beam bulbs are where the light is only used as a dip beam (regular driving light).
Dual beam / Bi-Xenon HID kits.
This type of the kit requires a relay so that the solenoid within the bulb, typically (H4) which then pitches the bulb upwards allowing for the “high” beam or “flash” function.
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO PUT MY BALLAST?
The ballast for your aftermarket HID kit should always be placed somewhere dry and airy.
We recommend near the headlamp in the engine bay.
There are two distinct advantages for this.
Easy access, should you ballast fail and need replacing you can access it easily.
Being higher up, its more likely to avoid water damage.
